Disappear Zine

One of my first project of the semester was extremely open, our only guideline was to illustrate the word "disappear". I love open ended projects, it really lets me work outside of the box and get a little more "artsy" which always feels good in a design class.

I was inspired by National Geographic's documentary "Moment of Death". The whole film talks about what happens to our consciousness during death, how it can death can be manipulated and asks the question, "when is someone really gone?". I was most interested on the segment about therapeutic hypothermia and it's ability to improve statistics in sufferers of heart attacks and how oxygen is some cases can cause your cells more harm then good.

I created these illustrations as a sort of "zine". I haven't quite perfected the book because I introduced vellum overlays which complicated the structure. Hopefully I will have some photos of it by next week. These illustrations were drawn with graphite, scanned, and colored digitally.
